Pincushion is a pretty hard uphill hike that usually takes me about 2 hours, including time spent at the top. If you go on a hot and/or smoky day, make sure you pack LOTS of water and bring even more if you have a dog. On a hot Okanagan day my 4 year old chocolate lab can struggle with this one. In addition, I recommend wearing good hiking shoes because the trail is steep in some spots and slippery.
**The pictures in this post are from two different days – one was a nice day in June and the other was a smoky day in August.
Once you get to the top you can see an incredible view of Lake Okanagan and Peachland. Be sure to locate and sign the trail journal that is attached to the flagpole. Inside you will find drawings, inspiring messages and witty remarks from former hikers. If you would like to go on this hike and are coming from Kelowna – turn right onto Ponderosa Drive off of Hwy 97 in Peachland. Stay on this road until you reach the end of it and then take the slight left up past the Chateau on the Ridge sign and park in the parking lot.
A hike up Pincushion Mountain is never complete without a visit to Bliss Bakery in Peachland to grab Kilo his favourite treat.
